Cheryl Hendrixson, RN, BSN, CMC – Medical Navigator

Cheryl is a licensed RN, BSN and has earned the designation of Care Manager, Certified (CMC). She is also a member of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers.  Along with her personal experience of caring for her aging parents, she has been assisting and guiding older adults and their families with aging and care giving issues for over 30 years.

She has a wide range of experience by working in a variety of positions.  These include: Director of Case Management Services to coordinate medical care for persons disabled by work related injuries and automobile accidents, Rehabilitation Consultant, Director of Education for a skilled and long term care facility, Registered Nurse Manager at a Continuum Care Retirement Community, and Professional Geriatric Care Manager.

Through her years of working with older adults and their families, she understands the challenges of aging and has the experience and skills to help them maintain independence and live their life to the fullest.  She also understands the difficulty of navigating the medical and insurance systems and knows how to navigate families through the ‘maze’.

Cheryl is a strong advocate for the older adult and always puts their best interests first.  Her compassion, professionalism and common sense approach give families the reassurance that they are not alone. Her education and broad experience have made her an “expert” in aging issues. She understands the challenges of aging and has the experience and skills to help older adults maintain independence and live their life to the fullest.  She also understands the difficulty of navigating the medical and insurance systems and knows how to navigate families through the ‘maze’.

Tara O’Connor LaRose, RN, CCM – Medical Navigator

Tara is an experienced Registered Nurse with a multi-faceted health care background spanning over 25 years.  Her experience includes working as a nurse in a busy family medical practice office where she taught patients healthy living practices, working in a hospital emergency room, and working as a Case Manager, coordinating medical care for patients in work or auto related accidents. As a Certified Case Manager, she has proven experience designing and monitoring care plans, coordinating care by several physicians and other care providers, facilitating communication among the patient, family doctors, hospitals, insurance companies and other parties, evaluating patient progress and providing support to the patient and family.

As the CEO of the ASU Group (the parent company of Age Navigation) for many years, Tara also has experience in the insurance services industry. Her personal and professional experience in the medical and insurance fields helped create Age Navigation.  She understands, on a personal and professional level, the problems of aging and care giving, and saw the importance of having a “navigator” help guide families through this unknown territory.

Tara is a member of the ASU Board of Directors and is on the Advisory team of Age Navigation.  She is a regular contributor to a patient health magazine, promoting healthy aging.

 

Theresa Cooper, CSA – Client Navigator

Theresa Cooper, CSA As Client Navigator, Theresa is the co-ordinator for client services and interacts with all members of the Age Navigation team.

She has over 20 years experience working in business administration,   including marketing and research. Her broad based skill set allows her to work effectively  with insurance companies, government benefit offices, attorneys, accountants, etc. in order to help clients obtain the information they need and to be an advocate on their behalf.  She is the “concierge” service for our clients.

Theresa  has a real passion for the services offered by AN as she  personally experienced the benefit of direction and support  from our Medical navigators during her own family’s medical crisis.

In 2009, she earned the Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)® credential which provides specialized training in the key health, social and financial factors that are important to seniors – and how these factors work together. She continually keeps up to date on the latest news and research affecting seniors.

She is a member of the Greater Lansing Estate Planners Association, the Society of Certified Senior Advisors and volunteers with her community Meals on Wheels and the Alzheimers Association.
