Our parent company, The ASU Group is an employee-owned company and has been in business since 1953. Our RN’s have been doing care management since the 1980’s. We are bonded and insured.

What does the Age Navigation team do?

Our RN/Care managers and team of senior care professionals have the personal as well as professional experience to help individuals and families by: guiding family conversations, support and coaching caregivers, doing a comprehensive assessment of the situation, helping you plan for long term care needs, advocating on clients’ behalf, managing bill paying, assisting with insurance, researching housing options, etc.

What kind of experience does your staff have?

Our Registered Nurse Care Managers have been certified in long term care management for over 25 years.  They have personal as well as professional experience dealing with caregiver issues and aging concerns. They know how to “navigate” the medical and insurance system.

The competency of the Age Navigation team in dealing with aging issues, including family and individual support, legal and ethical concerns, special needs and advocacy, etc. have earned them the following professional designations: CMC – National Academy of Certified Care Managers, CCM – Certified Case Manager and CSA – Member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors.

What geographic areas do you cover?

We have local on – site support throughout Indiana, as well as several areas of Michigan, including Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, and Lansing, MI.  In addition, we have successfully helped older adults and their families throughout the country.  We have found that we can provide guidance and advice over the phone or via e-mail.

Do I have to sign anything?

Yes.  For the protection of the older adult and the best interest of all parties it is important that our relationship and services be clearly defined.  Additionally, we want to protect the older adult and family with assurances of intent, confidentiality, and applicable privacy

How much does it cost?

Our fees vary according to services provided and by which member of our team is required.  Each situation is unique and depends on the abilities of the older adult and the amount of help the family provides themselves.  We always provide you with an estimate of what the services will be in advance.

Do you provide onsite medical care?

No, we do not provide direct medical or clinical care. We have worked with many reputable home healthcare companies in the area and can provide you with good options.

Do you have any financial interest in the other services you recommend?

No.  We are independent of home health care, large health care systems, insurance companies, and other services and products.  We do not receive any commission or compensation from any other service provider.  This independence frees us to give an objective recommendation based solely on what’s best for the client.

Does insurance cover your services?

Our services are typically not reimbursed by insurance, Medicare, etc.  Many of our client families pay for the services for their parent(s) themselves. Other times, the older adult understands the importance of getting professional advice to handle long term care needs and pays us directly.

What about confidentiality, HIPPA and privacy?

Age Navigation recognizes the trust you place in us.  Prior to delivering services, a services  agreement is signed stating: that we value your privacy; to use any information only for the purpose of delivering requested services; and that we’ll take all reasonable steps to protect the security of client information.  Furthermore, we will only disclose any information to those you designate in writing.  Age Navigation also requires sharing any information covered under HIPPA law to be agreed to in writing by all parties.

I’m concerned about my mother, but she insists she doesn’t need any help.  Is that something you can help with? What is the process?

Yes we have been successful in this area. Our RN/Care managers have lots of experience talking to seniors and know just what to say to make it easier for them to accept the help they need.  Sometimes, having a medical professional say what you’ve been saying, makes all the difference.  No matter the situation, you’re still the son or daughter.  Sometimes it’s important to let them know that their getting help will help you, so you don’t have to worry.

Can you help me talk to my dad about his driving? I think it’s time he gave up the keys.

Yes.  We have helped families with many sensitive issues, just like this one.  This is one of the most difficult subjects to talk about, but we know how and what to say to make it easier for everyone.
